So you finally decided you want to make some extra money from home, but you are overwhelmed with options… welcome to the world of direct sales.
It is honestly a daunting task when you are researching all of the direct sales companies and what they have to offer. Some companies may have a cheap start-up fee, while others may have ridiculous expectations on their consultants. Regardless, not all of them will be right for you. When choosing a direct sales company there are a few questions you should ask yourself:
What are you interested in?
No matter what company you choose, you need to have a genuine interest in the product. You probably won’t make much money if you can’t stand behind what you are selling. It is like a vegetarian selling meat, probably not the best idea. If people see that you actually like the product, the chances of them making a purchase is that much higher.
What are you looking to gain?
Not all direct sales are created equal in terms of the amount of sales they require from you and their compensation plans. If you are just wanting to make a few bucks alongside your normal 9-5 job then you may not want to choose a company that requires a monthly minimum in sales. Also, make sure you check into the company’s compensation plan. Know how much you will be making and if it is worth the amount of effort you have to put in.
Do you have a customer base?
The number one thing you need in the world of direct sales is customers. Someone has to buy the product ;). That being said, before you join the company ask your family and friends if they might be interested in the product. Another thing is to know how many consultants there are in your area. There is nothing wrong with a little competition, but it could sway your decision between one company and another.
